A FASCINATING collection of artefacts cataloguing Northallerton’s history are going on display.

They have been unearthed after local people were asked to check their lofts, cupboards and garages for items that might be of interest for inclusion in a future heritage facility in the town.

That search has amassed over 150 items from the late 18th to the early 20th centuries – including lemonade bottles made in the local brewery, a 1920s bakers barrow, a 100-year-old glass butter churn used in Brompton, and a 19th century linen garment made at the Brompton Linen Works.

Owners are now being asked to bring the articles to a special heritage day on September 8 when they will be photographed and catalogued by experts.

Many of the items will then go on display to the public that day.

Members of the Northallerton and Villages Community Forum (NVCF) are working with Hambleton District Council on the possible creation of a heritage facility for the town.

Sally Anderson, Chair of the Northallerton and Villages Community Forum, said: “The response to our call for artefacts for our first event has been incredible.

“We have a huge amount to catalogue and show off giving us a great record of what is available if we can provide a heritage centre for the town.”

The heritage day takes place at The Forum in Northallerton on September 8 – cataloguing runs from 10am until noon with the public viewing from 1pm to 4pm.
