A MOTORIST has died and two children were injured in a car crash yesterday morning.

The 61-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on the A64 near Scagglethorpe, between Malton and Rillington.

He was travelling in a grey Hyundai Tucson with a ten-year-old boy and a girl of nine when their vehicle collided with a car transporter and a heavy goods vehicle.

It happened at around 10.50am and now police are appealing for witnesses and

dash-cam footage.

The children were taken to hospital by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The man was from the Sheffield area and his family have been informed.

Diversions were put in place while the emergency services tended to the casualties and to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.

The road re-opened just after 5pm.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any dash-cam footage that may show any of the vehicles involved prior to it, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
