VOLUNTEERS have been busily planting roses in Richmond to ensure the town is ready for its In Bloom bid.

A team of sponsors joined organisers of Original Richmond In Bloom to plant roses in Friary Gardens.

Funds are still required for the town's entry into this year’s Yorkshire In Bloom competition and on Sunday, June 2 the Original Richmond In Bloom team are holding a Big Plant Sale in the Market Place.

Stalls will include Ravensworth Nurseries, John Meynell, Broaches Farm and Mandy Owen Flowers and Plants among others.

Plants, seedlings, cuttings, unwanted garden tools and second-hand gardening books are among the many items that will be on sale.

Meanwhile, four Easby village gardens and the grounds of Easby Hall are gearing up to open to the public on June 9 from 1pm to 5pm to raise funds for the Old Grammar School Project.

Tickets are available from Castle Hill Books, Richmond, or on the day at the entrance to the gardens.
