AN Open Day will reveal the ancient finds and archaeological artefacts discovered during a £98,000 investigation into a villages past.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has backed the two year exploration at the tiny village of Thornton le Street, near Northallerton to reveal the secrets of the communities past.

Over 2,500 artefacts have been found, many going back thousands of years, as local residents and volunteers have been encouraged to join in a series of digs to unearth the roads to the past. An investigation of archives examining the paper history of the area has also been running alongside the archaeological investigations.

The Open Day is being held on Saturday March 23 and will include a display in the village hall from 10am to 4pm with the chance to talk to organisers, the Thornton le Street History Group.
