THE president of the Rotary Club of Richmond has donated cheques to two local causes from its fundraising efforts this year.

The first was to Lieutenant Colonel Joe Jordan, the commander of Catterick Garrison, to add to his fund to provide a lasting memorial in the garrison to remember those who have lost their lives while fighting for their country.

The memorial will feature four stone-carved statues erected on the Leyburn Road roundabout, which will be unveiled on December 11 at 11am.

The other was to Michaela Ryder, senior fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, who gave an illustrated talk about the work of the charity.

It included details of the soon to be opened Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.
