THE Yorkshire Air Museum will be marking the 25th anniversary of the fly-in of a historic aircraft from the Cold War era.

On November 25, 1993, that Handley Page Victor V-bomber XL231 'Lusty Lindy' touched down, ending a service life that started in December 1961.

The milestone will be celebrated on Sunday, November 25 with a special event that will offer visitors the chance for a guided walk around Lusty Lindy with Andre Tempest and his team who look after the aircraft, and there will be a full power up of the four mighty Rolls Royce Conway engines that powered the Victor series.

There will be a special presentation by pilot Martin Withers DFC, who flew the AVRO Vulcan XM607 in the attack on Port Stanley airfield during the Black Buck raids of the Falklands War.

Mr Withers went on to become the test and display pilot for the Vulcan to the Sky project, flying XH558 all around the country.

He will highlight the vital role that the Victor air-to-air refuelling fleet played in achieving the feat of attacking Port Stanley from the operation base on the Ascension Islands. It took 16 tankers to get just one Vulcan bomber to Port Stanley.

Mr Withers is now chairman of trustees of the Allied Air Forces Memorial.

Admission to the event will be at standard museum admission of £10 for adults, £8 concession and £5 children aged 5 to 15. The Martin Withers presentation will be a separate, ticketed session, at £10 per person, and available to book at: http://yorkshireairmuseum.org/product/martin-withers-vulcan-talk.
