AN AUTHOR who was inspired by his trip to the Yorkshire Dales has published a book on the fallen soldiers from the two world wars.
Former primary school teacher, Keith Taylor, 72, wrote the book ‘Wartime Sacrifice in the Yorkshire Dales’ after a trip to Wensleydale.
Mr Taylor, of Bakewell, Derbyshire, was inspired after visiting Wensleydale Church where he saw the names of those local service personnel killed inscribed on a memorial.
He said he wanted to create a record of the deceased from the neighbouring towns and villages and the book includes the stories of over 200 service personnel from 20 Dales villages.
He said: “These people are not just words on metal and wood, all you see is a name. Now they are recorded, their full story is given.”
The book goes on sale online in mid-November.
