HAMBLETON has become the first council in North Yorkshire to obtain the top award for its Housing Options Service.

It has achieved the Gold Standard award for offering a free service to prevent homelessness, help people claim benefits they are entitled to and work with landlords.

“Homelessness is one of the biggest challenges facing councils today and this award demonstrates our commitment to doing all we can to target support and early intervention to those most in need and prevent homelessness,” said Cllr Brian Phillips, portfolio holder for planning.

To obtain Gold Standard, local authorities have to pass ten evidence-based challenges and are assessed by three individual assessors..

Over the last year the Housing Options team have worked through the challenges obtaining bronze and silver before passing the final challenge
