A NORTH Yorkshire foodbank has launched an appeal to help less fortunate families this Christmas.
Ryedale Foodbank is appealing for festive items and seasonal treats, including children’s advent calendars, as the number of families needing help increases.
Manager Lesley Hurley said: “Local people facing bleak times will be given food hampers containing mince pies, puddings, tinned ham, chocolates and other festive treats alongside a standard emergency food parcel.
“People in crisis will be identified by local frontline care professionals, such as health visitors, social workers and others, and given a voucher which they can bring to Ryedale Foodbank centre to exchange for food.”
The foodbank, based at Hope Central, in Castlegate, Malton, fed 886 people over the last year, six per cent up on the year before.
