FAMILY events have been organised for would-be explorers on the coast.

The Youth Hostel at Boggle Hole near Robin Hood’s Bay has joined forces with local businesses to stage three open days where families can explore the natural wonders of Boggle Hole and learn more about local wildlife.

During open days on July 25, August 8 and 24, families can go on a seashore safari with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to hunt out the creatures lurking in the rock pools, find fossils with Hidden Horizons or join the National Trust and North York Moors National Park on a geocaching exploration of the woodland and cliff-top.

A series of activities have also been planned by the Hawk and Owl Trust.

On other dates throughout the summer holiday YHA will be hosting further nature discovery days, ‘crafternoons’ on topics such as photography and stained glass, and yoga afternoons.

Keith Webster, activities manager for YHA Boggle Hole said: “With the woodland walks, beach and craggy rocks we have a fantastic natural resource in the national park that is made for exploring and yet many visitors don’t know it exists.

“The programme we’ve organised aims to entertain the young, and not so young, as well as offering a welcome drink and bite to eat at the Quarterdeck café.”

There is a small fee attached to some of the events and booking is required. Ring the YHA on 01947-880352 or email: boggleholeactivities@yha.org.uk or visit; www.facebook.com/YHABoggleHole/ for further details.
