RESIDENTS in Hambleton district are to be given a third wheelie bin to enable them to recycle more of their waste.
Households will be given black bins with a blue lid in February for all recycling materials except glass ahead of the first collections from the end of that month.
Residents will be able to place more types of plastics, cardboard, paper, foil, cartons, cans and aerosols into the bins, while glass will also be collected in blue boxes.
They will be collected fortnightly at the kerbside by a new fleet of vehicles.
Hambleton District Council leader Councillor Mark Robson said: “Hambleton residents have been calling for better provision for home recycling for many years and with this new scheme we can do just that."
The move comes as the authority has unveiled its strategy for waste for the next ten years.
The council hopes the new kerbside system should see it hit its target of recycling and composting 53 per cent of waste by 2020, which would make it the top performing authority in North Yorkshire.
