A CRACKDOWN on school parking to stop drivers putting lives at risk is being launched by North Yorkshire County Council.

From mid September enforcement officers will be stepping up patrols outside schools at arrival and departure times to ensure vehicles are not causing problems.

The move comes after the authority took over responsibility for civil parking enforcement across the county.

After carrying out a consultation exercise nearly 75 per cent of people who responded said parking near schools was a problem.

County Councillor Gareth Dadd, executive member for highways, said: "We urge parents and carers who do need to drive their children to school to think of the safety of others.”
