ONE of the region’s leading chefs is to open a new restaurant on the edge of York’s historic Museum Gardens.

Andrew Pern, is proprietor chef of the Star Inn, at Harome, near Helmsley, North Yorkshire, one of the UK’s most highly rated gastro pub restaurants and author of several award-winning food books.

But for his latest venture he is planning to open a 130-seat restaurant in the converted Engine House building in the city’s public gardens, close to Lendal Bridge.

He has teamed up with fellow Scarborough Catering College student Justin Brosenitz for his latest venture and plans to focus on locally sourced, Yorkshire produce.

The area, on the edge of the River Ouse, is notorious for flooding, but Mr Pern said he was confident the building’s slightly raised site would prevent this. It is scheduled to open in autumn.
