A STIRRING programme of military music will raise the roof as two bands join forces for a charity concert.

Northallerton College Concert Band will be joined by musicians from Darlington Community Wind Band for a 90-minute performance at the Forum in Northallerton.

Final rehearsals are under way for the show which will raise funds for the military charity Help for Heroes and the Macmillan Nurses.

Featuring classics such as Nimrod and the Dam Busters, the concert will be staged on May 18 at 7pm. Tickets are £5 and available from Northallerton College, Greensleeves Music Shop in Central Arcade, or on the door.

The college’s head of music Adrian Bramley and Phil Tranmer, of Darlington Community Wind Band, will conduct each band before combining to become the largest wind band to perform at the Forum with 54 musicians.

Mr Bramley said: “There will be a mixed programme of film and light music before a finale paying tribute to the armed forces.

“It is a great opportunity for young people to perform before a paying audience and they have been rehearsing hard since September. They are both excellent causes as we have close links with the military and cancer affects many of our lives.”
