POLICE are appealing for a vital witness to come forward after a motorist drove off without paying for his fuel.

The incident occurred at the Scotch Corner Pavilion, Middleton Tyas, some six weeks ago but details have only just been released by police.

Art 8.25pm on March 11, a Monday, a maroon saloon left the garage without paying for £141 of fuel, after the driver had filled a number of jerry cans. An image of a passenger in the car was caught on CCTV.

PC Heather Campbell said: “If you are the man caught on camera I ask that you come forward and contact the police straight away.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who can help to identify the man and ask that they get in touch.”
