A WOMAN has been assaulted in an attack in the centre of a North Yorkshire market town.

Northallerton Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 31-year-old woman was assaulted on Northallerton High Street on Saturday, March 30.

The incident happened between midnight and 1am near the Mason’s Arms pub.

The victim was knocked to the ground and suffered a suspected broken cheekbone, serious bruising to her face and a black eye. She needed treatment at the Friarage Hospital and will require further treatment.

Two local women aged 18 and 21 arrested in connection with the incident have been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.

PC Michael Wilson, of Northallerton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This was a nasty assault which left the victim with injuries requiring ongoing medical treatment.

“If you were in the area at the time of the assault I urge you to come forward and contact the police or Crimestoppers.”
