AUTHOR SOCIETY: The Malcolm Saville Society, commemorating the work of the popular children’s author who died in 1982 aged 81.
He wrote more than 90 books, most famously the Lone Pine Adventures series.
The society is holding its annual gathering at Richmond’s Kings Head Hotel this weekend (Saturday 6 to Sunday 7) to explore some of the places mentioned in his books around Swaledale.
His book The Secret of Buzzard Scar is set in Richmond and surrounding areas.

SPRING CLEAN: Richmondshire Cricket Club is appealing for volunteers to help prepare its ground for the start of the new season.
This weekend (Saturday 6 and Sunday 7) is NatWest Cricket Force Weekend, when the bank provides financial and practical help for the club.
There will be sessions on the main ground from 9am until noon on Saturday and Sunday, plus another session on Saturday from 1pm until 4pm.
Anyone willing to help the club can go along to the club in Hurgill Road, Richmond, in old clothing, with any paint brushes, rakes and shovels they can bring.
There will be less-skilled jobs available for youngsters on Sunday morning.
