A TEENAGER has died in a car crash which left seven others in hospital.
The 18-year-old died in the collision, which happened in Kibblesworth, near Gateshead on Sunday.
It happened on Birkland Lane, just north of Cranberry Bog Road at around 6.40pm.
Northumbria Police said an 18-year-old boy suffered fatal injuries in the collision while a 17-year-old boy, two 18-year-olds, a 45-year-old man and 41-year-old woman were seriously injured.
A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said it had transported two patients to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle and five people to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Newcastle.
She said six ambulance crews, the service’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and two officers attended the scene.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) transported a teenager to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The GNAAS, which said three vehicles were involved in the crash, said the boy had suffered a broken leg, abdominal and pelvic injuries and was in a serious but stable condition.
Firefighters from Tyne and Wear and County Durham also assisted paramedics and police.
Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for witnesses.
