A CITY cricket club has honoured a stalwart for his unstinting service by naming a pavilion after him.

All-rounder Ray Pallister attended a tribute event at

Durham City CC’s Green Lane ground, where over 100 current and former players gathered prior to a Durham Cricket League division one fixture on Saturday.

As a joint tribute to mark the support of the former club president’s late wife, Laura, who died two years ago, the building will now be known as, The Pallister Pavilion.

Club vice-president John Whitfield said all those involved with Durham appreciate the efforts of Mr Pallister and his late wife.

He said: “He’s been a full member for 60 years and been a great supporter of the club and the wider cricketing community.

“Naming the pavilion like this is quite unique, I believe, in local cricket circles, but we fell it’s a fitting honour for all he has done for the club.”

During six decades at the club Mr Pallister played for 50 years and was a committee member for 43, serving as chairman and presdient, while also captaining the second team.

He also served with distinction as chairman and president of of the Durham Senior League.
