A SUPERMARKET charity scheme has raised around £900 for good causes.
Asda at Stanley has donated £500 to Northumbria Blood Bikes, £200 to St Stephen’s Community Centre Craft and Chat and £200 to Derwentside Amateur Swimming Club.
Community centre manager Carol Roberts said: “Our aim is to reach out to as many local people as possible to help reduce the risk of social isolation, and this scheme is providing us with the much-needed funds to do that.”
Northumbria Blood Bikes spokeswoman Kirsty Lawrence said donations were essential to the operation of the charity.
She said: “As we do not receive any government funding every aspect of our charity relies on money from companies and individuals.
“Enabling us to keep our vehicles on the road so that we can help to contribute to saving lives of those in our region.”
