A CHARITY event in honour of a soldier who died in Afghanistan has been held.
Colin Richardson, who was a friend of Daryn Roy, held the event at the Salvation Army Hall on Sherburn Terrace in Consett.
He sold t-shirts, badges and car stickers to raise money for Help for Heroes in memory of the 28-year-old sapper from Dipton.
Mr Richardson, 50, of Blackhill, said: "I was very close to Daryn and I was very proud of him because he had done something with his life by becoming a soldier.
"I am very sad that he is dead and gone."
Sapper Roy died on May 3, 2010, after driving over a roadside bomb while out on patrol in a Panther armoured vehicle in the Nad-eAli area of Helmand province.
