A HOSPICE is holding a first-of-its-kind new fundraiser this weekend.

St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham City, will invite residents and supporters to tour its newly refurbished grounds as part of its Hospice Harvest event.

There will also be plants and produce for sale, refreshments, a raffle, stalls and competitions.

Jade McArdle, a community fundraiser at the hospice, said: "Hospice Harvest is the first chance for the local community to explore our wonderful gardens, see the hard work that our gardeners do in the greenhouse and to also see the benefits it will have to guests.

"We are now able to grow fresh produce for our guests’ meals and our guests can start their own small gardening projects, which is a great opportunity for them.

"There will be some great stalls such as plants, books, merchandise and a tombola on offer at the event, so it’s a great way to celebrate the season."

St Cuthbert’s Hospice provides free day and overnight care for people with life-limiting illnesses in north Durham. It must raise £1.2m a year to cover its costs.

The Hospice Harvest will be held on Saturday, October 15, from 11am to 2pm. Entry is free. For further details, call Jade McArdle on 0191-3861170.
