DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses to an unprovoked attack which left a man with a broken jaw.
The 28-year-old victim was attacked in the early hours of Sunday, July 3 as he made his way home after a night out with friends in Durham City.
After leaving the Bishops Mill pub, he was walking across Millennium Square towards Claypath at around 1.45am to get a taxi back to his home in Sunderland.
As he did so, he was struck to the side of his head by an unknown assailant, leaving him with a broken jaw.
The victim has undergone surgery and three metal plates, along with several screws have been inserted in his jaw to help it heal.
Police are asking anyone who was in Millennium Square at that time and saw anything unusual to contact Durham City CID on 0345 6060 365, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
