A NEW mayor showed his support for Sir Bobby Robson’s cancer charity at his first official civic engagement.
Councillor Les Thomson, the new Mayor of Durham, and Mayoress Lucille Thomson were guests of honour alongside Lady Elsie Robson at an Inner Wheel Club dinner held at Ramside Hall Hotel, near Durham City.
During the event, the former England manager’s widow accepted a cheque for £1,400 raised by the Inner Wheel Club of Durham over the last year for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
Lady Robson said: "I’m very grateful to the ladies of Durham’s Inner Wheel Club for this wonderful donation."
Since March 2008, the former Newcastle United boss’ charity has raised £3.3m for cancer treatment research.
