A MARTIAL arts club is launching a beginners’ Aikido course in its drive for new members.
The Kuraikan Dojo (correct( has been running at the Chester-le-Street Community Centre for about five years and has 18 members The six-session weekly course will begin on Tuesday March 8 between 7.30 and 9pm with a free sesion and after that the cost will be £3.
Club secretary Alan Parks said: "Aikido is a martial art that originated in Japan in the 1920s.
"Ir is not about physical strength but about natural energy, Our instruictor is called Doug Mason and he is a Third Dan.
"At the end of the course people will be given the chance to go for the first grading, the Eighth Kyu "It is a very friendly club and we have members of all ages.’’ The sessions, which will be held at the centre, on Newcastle Bank, or open to males and females aged 14 and over. Anyone interested can turn up on the night.
