A SERIES of consultation events are to take place later this month to help shape the future of a town.

A new masterplan for the development of Stanley is being drawn up and three drop-in sessions have been organised so residents can have their say.

Durham County Council says the plan, expected to be completed in the summer, will pull together previous work with the aim of guiding investment and development in the town.

Drop-in events take place in the foyer of the Louisa Centre, in Front Street. They take place on Monday, February 14, from 2pm to 7pm; Wednesday, February 16 from 9am to 2pm; and on Saturday, February 19 from 10am to 2pm.

Coun Neil Foster, the authority’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: "This is an important opportunity for local residents in Stanley to get involved in the future development of the town centre so we can have a comprehensive understanding of the issues people think are important."

Questionnaires can also be filled in at Stanley Library, the Lamplight Theatre, as well as the town’s health centre and bowls club.

It is also available online at www.durham.gov.uk from Monday, February 7 to February 25.
