A WIDOW is to honour the memory of her late husband by taking part in a Midnight Walk.

Rosamund Clark, a 62-year-old from Belmont, is to take part in this year’s Midnight Walk in Durham, raising money for St Cuthbert’s Hospice Mrs Clark lost her 61-year-old husband Derek to prostate cancer two years ago.

During the last six months of his life, Mr Clark regularly stayed at St Cuthbert’s and the family said they wanted to do something for the charity in return.

Mrs Clark said: "I simply can’t praise it enough. I was only able to enjoy the time I had left with Derek thanks to everyone at the hospice."

"I just couldn’t have managed that at home, and he wouldn’t have had that level of care and attention in a hospital. It meant that we could sit happily together in his room, enjoying the views, without me constantly worrying that I’d forgotten to do something. We both loved chatting with the cleaners and the volunteers, who I still count among my good friends."

Around 1,000 people are expected to take part in the ladies-only Midnight Walk on Saturday, June 19, with the 10km route around Aykley Heads in Durham City. St Cuthbert’s Hospice is aiming to beat least year’s impressive total of £75,000 towards their work.

Mrs Clark said: "St Cuthbert’s Hospice has supported me no matter what, so every year, I thank them by walking at midnight in memory of Derek.

"St Cuthbert’s Hospice was there for me and Derek no matter what, so Midnight Walk means a great deal to me.
