A TEAM of football legends triumphed over college students during a match last weekend.

Former Newcastle United star Steve Howey and current keeper Steve Harper, former Middlesbrough hero Dean Gordon, Sunderland stalwart Michael Proctor and Hartlepool legend Brian Honour were among the players who took on a side from East Durham College on Saturday as part of the college’s annual open day and spring fair.

The legends ended the day as victors, with a 4-3 win over the college.

Hundreds of people visited the college’s Peterlee Campus for the fun day, which also gave prospective students a chance to enrol for September courses.

Assistant Principal Fred Harrison said: "The event was a great shop window for the college and certainly got a lot of people through the door who had never set foot inside the college before."

The College is now preparing for its annual open day at Houghall Campus, in Durham City, which will be held on Sunday, May 23 from 10am to 4pm. For more details visit www.eastdurham.ac.uk
