A SCHOOL community has taken part in a Christmas jumper and Santa run to raise money for a North-East hospice.

Durham Trinity School holds the event every December to raise money for St Cuthbert’s Hospice.

About 200 people took part in the run yesterday, which is also aimed at encouraging pupils at the school to be more active.

Teacher Jane Young, the director of sport at Durham Trinity, said: "It's something we do every year to support St Cuthbert's and do something for a good community cause.

"It brings the whole school together and gets everyone to be a bit more physically active. We're a sports college so it's important we do things to support the physical wellbeing of our pupils."

Louise Gregory, hospice fundraiser, said: "We are thrilled local schools like Durham Trinity are supporting us this Christmas. It was so enjoyable attending the event and seeing all the children having such a fun time. Everyone really got into the Christmas spirit, including the teachers.

“Despite the chill in the air the children gave it their all and we know they will have raised a fantastic amount for the hospice. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved.”
