YOUNG thespians will be performing their version of a 1980s musical as one of their summer shows.

Durham Youth Theatre, which is based in Belmont, Durham, is putting on a stage version of hit musical Footloose.

The young performers have been working hard ahead of the show.

Alexandra McEwan will be taking on the role of Ariel, while Cameron Morl will play Ren.

Willard is played by Elliot Stephenson, Rusty is Sophia Smyth and Erin Tate will take on the role of Reverend Shaw.

Musical director Yzen Eng said: "Our fantastic students have all worked extremely hard over the past couple of months to put on this show.

"It's been a huge task but we're all really looking forward to performing this lively musical on Sunday."

The production is being staged at Park View Community School Theatre, in Church Chare, Chester-le-Street on Sunday.

The show starts at 6pm and tickets are £10 for adults and £8 for children and concessions.

Durham Youth Theatre specialising in musical theatre and caters for children between the ages of seven and 18.

It holds weekly practices for children to hone their skills in drama, music and dance and puts on two shows each year.

Footloose is the group's summer performance.

It follows Ren as he moves from Chicago to a small Midwestern town, where he discovers dancing and rock music has been made illegal.
