A DEVELOPER has submitted an application to build 70 homes on the outskirts of a village.
Persimmon Homes is seeking to develop the site off Station Road, Coxhoe, where outline permission for 50 homes was granted in 2016.
The company is proposing to provide a total of seven "affordable" properties, which would have two bedrooms, ten per cent of the total.
The proposed estate, if approved, would comprise of a further three two-bedroom homes, 32 three-bedroom homes and 28 four-bedroom homes.
Barratt Homes has permission to build 155 houses on adjacent land.
Persimmon says the development will create 27 jobs during the construction period, will generate about £4.6m in investment and will support local facilities and and services in Coxhoe.
The company is trying to secure detailed planning permission and has submitted plans of the proposed design and layout of the estate.
They can be viewed by visiting www.publicaccess.durham.gov.uk, where comments on the plan can also be made.
