YOUNG gymnasts had their first taste of competition in a friendly regional tumbling event.

The youngsters from Durham City Gymnastics Club, which is based in Sherburn Village, took part in the competition in Hartlepool.

The 26 tumblers came back with six gold medals, three silvers and one bronze.

Coach Georgia Clayton said: "’Days like this are a great way to introduce young gymnasts to competing in different environments and on different equipment.

“I'm very proud to say that Durham City tumblers had a successful day, all competing clean and tidy tumbles.

All of our gymnasts performed as expected and all of the coaches are very proud of them. All of their hard work and dedication shows on days like this.”
