A NEW skatepark has been opened around four years after young people from a village first asked for the facility.

A skate park for Ludworth has been in the pipeline since 2014, when young people from the village went to their local councillor to ask for it.

Work started this autumn and the skating area, which is on previously unused land next to the play park, has now been officially opened.

It is hoped it will give young people in the village more of a chance to become physically active.

Councillor Lucy Hovvels, said, “The Ludworth Skate Park is a new community asset which attracted external Sports Lottery funding into the village.

“This new sports provision provides the opportunity for young people to have fun whilst being physically active, improving their health and wellbeing.”

The project was managed by Groundwork and funding came from the Sport England Community Asset Fund, Durham county councillors, Durham Area Action Partnership (AAP) and Shadforth and Ludworth Parish Council.
