MUSICIANS, singers and actors are taking part in an emotional musical tribute marking 100 years since the end of the First World War.

The Durham Hymns is being staged at the Gala Theatre in Durham on Sunday at 2.30pm and 7.30pm and tickets are still available.

First performed in Durham Cathedral in 2016 to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, The Durham Hymns features specially commissioned lyrics by Carol Ann Duffy.

The Poet Laureate was inspired by letters and diaries at Durham County Record Office, which were written by local people who experienced the war.

Producer Alison Lister said: “It is a captivating performance, with beautiful songs and readings stirring deep emotions within us and providing a connection to those who experienced the First World War.

“I can’t think of a more fitting way to commemorate the centenary of the armistice.”

Tickets cost £25 or £23 for concessions. To book, call 03000-266-600 or visit
