A TALENTED boccia player has got new equipment after receiving funding.
Thomas Jackson, 26 from Thornley, competes both regionally and nationally in competitions related to boccia, a game similar to bowls which is played by those across the globe who have physical disabilities.
He has now received a £500 grant from Irwin Mitchell which he has put towards the purchase of a new head pointer, equipment which will prove vital as he prepares to enter more competitions in the autumn.
Mr Jackson said: “Disability sport has made such a huge difference to my life and it is fantastic to see an organisation like Irwin Mitchell raising awareness of the impact that Boccia and other activities can have.
“I am hugely grateful for their support and this new equipment will prove very useful.”
The law firm provided the funding as part of its ongoing Don’t Quit, Do It initiative, which aims to highlight the benefits of disability sport and provide support.
Angela Kirtley, who works at Irwin Mitchell’s Newcastle office, said: “We wish him all of the best for his upcoming competitions.”
