AN AMATEUR theatre society’s latest show is a production by one of Britain’s best-loved playwrights.

Durham Dramatic Society is putting on People, by Alan Bennett for a seven-day run this month.

The show is on at the City Theatre, in Back Silver Street, Durham, from Sunday until next Saturday, September 22.

Performances are on at 2.30pm on Sunday, September 16 and at 7.30pm from Monday, 17 to Sunday, 22.

Tickets are £7.50 and are available from the Gala Box Office.

Concessionary tickets are £6.50 and and available for the Sunday matinee and Monday evening performances.

The play tells the story of sisters June and Dorothy Stacpoole, who own a leaking and dilapitated stately home.

June wants to give it to the National Trust but Dorothy does not want people tramping through their home.

A spokesperson for Durham Dramatic Society said: “The solution has a surprising and hilarious outcome.

“This is Bennett at his sharp and witty best.”
