A RESIDENTIAL home for adults with learning difficulties has celebrated its silver anniversary.
It is 25 years since Grizedale Care Home, opened on Pont Head Road, in Leadgate, near Consett.
On Monday, staff, residents and family members had a tea party, with live entertainment to mark the occasion.
Manager Jackie Carr, who has been at the home 17 years, said: “It is a massive achievement and some of the guys have lived here for 25 years.
“This is their home and we pride ourselves on that.
“The feedback we get from anyone who comes through the door at Grizedale is that it is not like a residential care home, it is like walking into somebody’s home and that is how it should be.
Last June, the Care Quality Commission carried out an unannounced inspection and rated the home, which has ten staff, ‘good’ overall, with ‘outstanding’ care.
Mrs Carr said: “We work really hard and it is all about the guys who live here. It is small but that is how it is supposed to be to make it like a family home.”
