ACTOR Alun Armstrong is playing the voice of the genie in a community theatre production of Aladdin.
The show is being performed in the theatre, which is named after the Annfield Plain-born star, at Stanley Civic Hall.
Events manager Lee Brannigan, who is directing the show and also playing the Dame, Widow Twankey, spent a day in a London recording studio working with Alun on the script.
He said: “It was fantastic working with such a talented actor as Alun. He just asked me what I wanted, went into his first Geordie voice, and that was that, I had my Genie.
“Alun is very supportive of the theatre and has given his free time for our pantomime.”
Aladdin runs from December 13 to 24. Tickets £12-14 can be booked by calling the box office on 01207-299-110.
