A VILLAGE church is celebrating its 140th anniversary at the weekend.
Hesleden Methodist Church is holding a display placing the spotlight on its past, present and future, within the chapel from 10am to 3pm on Saturday.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to see inside the chapel, which has undergone extensive refurbishment in the past few years, including work on a new kitchen.
A new heating system has also been installed thanks largely to the generosity of local councillors Lynn Pounder and Rob Crute.
Anniversary worship will be held at 3pm on Sunday, with the service led by former ministers, Reverend Stephen Heath and Deacon Jenny Heath.
Afternoon tea will be served after the service.
The chapel plays host to various groups who meet in the village, such as the guides and Fit for life, the councillors surgeries, community consultation days and for children’s birthday parties.
A small maintain a pattern of weekly worship on a Sunday, with a a Sunday School and a monthly Messy Church, led by Deacon Annabel Graham.
