A CHARITY is offering free food to children from a mobile catering van.
Consett Community Trust is using food donated by Tesco, Morrisons and Greggs to provide meals for youngsters in Delves Lane.
A range of healthy eating dishes are available on weekdays after school from outside the home of trust founder Kelly Williamson at 105 Briardale.
The food for children is free, but adults are asked to make a donation.
The catering van also offers food to workers and passers-by, usually outside the Black Diamond, from 1pm to 3pm, in return for donations to keep it running.
It also operates on Sunday mornings at football fields in Crookhall and Delves Lane.
Ms Williamson, 36, said: “It is all discounted and everybody can use our services.
“People can put a donation in based on what they can afford.
“The problem is healthy food takes longer and can be more expensive. Some kids do not even get four meals a day.
“We are in a position where we can do it, so why would you not?”
