A MAN was airlifted to hospital with serious leg and hip injuries following an industrial accident at an engineering firm in Sunderland this morning (Wednesday, November 6).
A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance Service said a 57-year-old man was treated at the scene at an engineering firmi in Deptford Terrace, Sunderland, by a doctor and paramedic at 9.20am.
He was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle in a stable condition.
A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said it was aware of the incident and had begun preliminary inquiries.
The name of the company involved was not disclosed.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said it was aware of an incident at a Sunderland engineering firm, but could not comment further as it was an HSE matter.
