DIABETES MEETING: The next meeting of the Durham voluntary group of Diabetes UK takes place on Tuesday, May 14 in the Diabetes Centre, in the east wing of the University Hospital of North Durham starting at 7.30pm. The guest speaker will be Professor Roy Taylor, of the Newcastle Magnetic Resonance Centre, discussing "Type 2 Diabetes – Reversal or Treatment?"

LITTLE DRIBBLERS: Free term-time football courses for three to five-year-olds takes place every Friday from 4pm to 5pm in the children’s centres in Laurel Avenue, Kelloe and Sherburn Hill, near Durham City. The course is organised by the Sunderland AFC Foundation of Light.

OPEN DAYS: The Louisa Centre in Stanley and Belle Vue Leisure and Swim Centres, in Consett, are to hold free open days on Saturday, May 18 including taster sessions for those wanting to get involved in sport. The Louisa Centre will open its doors from 8am to 4.30pm for free sessions as varied as archery and cheerleading. Belle Vue Leisure Centre’s event takes place from 9.30am to 4.30pm, while Belle Vue Swim Centre will offer free family swimming from 2pm to 4pm.
