RESIDENTS of Sherburn Village and Sherburn Hill are invited to see the newly restored Sherburn Hill Colliery banner at Sherburn working men’s club on Saturday, May 4. It will be on display from 10am to noon. Refreshments will be served and there will be entertainment from a brass band. Entry is free. DOG WALK: A walk for retired greyhounds will take place on Sunday, May 5, starting at Beamish Hall Hotel, Beamish, at noon. The walk will be a short route through woods. It is being organised by the Retired Greyhound Trust at Pelaw Grange. For more information, call 0191-410-2141.

WORKSHOPS OFFER: English and maths workshops are being run at Bullion Lane Children’s Centre, in Chester-le-Street. The sessions, which started today (Friday, April 26), run for ten weeks. There is no need to book and the courses are free for people without Level Two English or maths qualifications and anyone who wants to brush up on their skills. ART SHOW: Watercolour Paintings, an exhibition by Durham-based artist John Renshaw, will be at Cafe on the Green, on Palace Green, Durham, from May 3 to 31. The exhibition will be open daily from 9am to 5pm. Entry is free.

DIRTY DISHES: Members of Durham School’s rugby first XV will be helping out at The Dunes family entertainment centre, in South Shields, on Sunday (April 28). The players will be taking on tasks such as serving customers and cleaning dishes. It comes after The Dunes donated £1,000 towards the costs of the team’s tour of the USA and Canada.
