THE Pemberton Rooms, on Palace Green, Durham City, will be the venue for book fairs on April 5, 6, 12 and 13m, from 10am to 4pm each day. Books of all types will be available, many for 50p. Entry is free. All proceeds will go to the Durham Palestine Educational Trust, which provides scholarships for Palestinian students to study postgraduate courses at Durham University. MUSIC AWARD: The final performances for the James Etherington Music Trust award will be held in Chester-le-Street Methodist Church on Saturday, April 13, at 7pm. The finalists are pianist Bolin Dai, trombonist Hugh Morris and singer Julia Smith. Each will perform for 15 minutes. The Trust was set up in 1978 to commemorate the musical career of singer James Etherington, who became a well-known tenor. Entry is free.

U3A MEETING: The April meeting of the Durham University of the Third Age (U3A) will be held at the Indoor Bowling Club, Pity Me, Durham, on Thursday, April 11, at 1.30pm. The speaker is Patricia Lowery and her title is: In Sickness and In Health. New members are welcome.
