VILLAGERS can bid for a share of £55,000 to install renewable energy technology.
The Renewable Heat Premium Payment Communities (RHPP) scheme has awarded £55,000 to Sherburn Hill Community Association (SHCA), in Sherburn Hill, near Durham City.
Homeowners can receive grants of up to £4,200 for renewable heating systems such as solar panels and air source heat pumps – if they agree to begin installation before the end of March.
SHCA chairman David Hall said: “Rising energy bills are a major concern for many people living in the village and we know from previous work the SHCA has done that many properties in the village could benefit from solar energy.
“The RHPP scheme can make this affordable and will enable people within the village to benefit from lower energy bills in the future.”
