WILLIAM Fong will give his first piano recital in the area for five years at a meeting of the Sunderland Pianoforte Society, in the Pottery Room of Sunderland’s Museum and Winter Gardens, Burdon Road, Sunderland, on Tuesday, February 5, at 7.15pm. Mr Fong previously lived in Durham. Entry costs £12 for adults and £6 for concessions. Tickets will be available at the door. The concert is part of the society’s 70th anniversary celebrations. The programme will include works by Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin and Ravel.

MEMORIAL EVENTS: Durham High School for Girls held a number of activities to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. Two sixth formers, Helen Turner and Hayley Bradley, attended seminars led by a Holocaust survivor and visited the Nazi camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau. On their return, they led a school assembly and, over coming weeks, will be leading some year nine history lessons.
