CHILDREN have been congratulated for walking to school.

Youngsters from The Chorister School, in Durham City, who walked to school every day during November were given badges by Strider, the mascot for the Walk Once a Week campaign.

The school operates a walking bus across Prebends Bridge twice daily.

Pip Dugdale, who leads the initiative, said: “Traffic in Durham is very congested.

“It is much more pleasant and a lot more healthy to walk over the bridge and everyone gets to have a chat and start their day much more relaxed then they would have done if they had been stuck in a traffic jam.”
