POLICE are asking parents to think twice before buying off-road bikes as Christmas presents.
The land owner’s permission must be secured to legally drive motorbikes and quad bikes off-road.
If driven illegally, the bikes can be seized and destroyed.
Paul Anderson, neighbourhood inspector for Durham City, said: “One of our biggest complaints of anti-social behaviour is in relation to off-road motorbikes and quad bikes.
“I would urge any parents considering purchasing a motorbike or quad bike for their children at Christmas to think very seriously about it: think of the consequences.
“At Durham City we will take positive action against the anti-social and illegal use of vehicles.”
Insp Anderson said a number of motorbikes had been seized recently.
To report a crime, call Durham police on 101.
