A POLICE station will be turned into Santa’s Grotto tomorrow (FRIDAY) as a village starts its Christmas celebrations.
A Christmas tree will be installed on the village green at Catchgate, near Stanley, at 8am which will be decorated throughout the morning by pupils from the village primary school before popping into the grotto in the community police station to see Santa.
After a traditional Christmas lunch at school, the children and parents will parade through the village to the Christmas tree for carols accompanied by Durham Constabulary Police Band.
Around 100 people are expected at an evening concert at the school by the band.
PC Craig Johnson, from the Catchgate neighbourhood team, said: "We’re really looking forward to helping people from our local community get into the festive mood.
"We’ll be happy to let Santa park his sleigh outside the community police station and transform it into a Grotto for the day. He’ll be a very special visitor, and there could be some surprises too."
