Children from a North-East school are feeling blue about the lack of clean water in developing countries.

To attract publicity for their cause, 10 pupils from Blaydon West Primary School, in Gateshead, today (Friday, December 7) donned blue wigs and blue noses get shopper’s attention at Elvet Bridge in Durham City.

The shoppers were offered bottles of dirtywater to highlight the kind of water children have to drink in these countries.

The shoppers did not have to drink the dirty water, as the students handed them clean water along with information how to support the charity further.

Ruby Seal, of the school’s charity committee: “We want to help the Just a Drop charity because they save lives and give clean water.”

The money the children raise for the charity will go towards bringing clean water to a school in the impoverished and dangerous area of Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.

Kelly Railton, head of fundraising at Just a Drop, said: “It is brilliant that children have been inspired to brave the cold to raise awareness of the clean water issues facing children their age in less developed countries.”
